Week #3 Vocabulary

1. accolade- any award, honor, or laudatory notice.
2. acerbity- harshness or severity, as of temper or expression.
3. attrition- a reduction or decrease in numbers, size or strength.
4. bromide- a platitude or trite saying.
5. chauvinist- a person who is aggressively and blindly patriotic.
6. chronic- constant, habitual, inveterate.
7. expound- to set forth or state in detail.
8. factionalism- self-interested; partisan.
9. immaculate- free from spot or stain; spotlessly clean; free from blemish.
10. imprecation- a curse- malediction.
11. ineluctable- incapable of being evaded; inescapable.
12. mercurial- changeable, volatile, fickle, flighty, erratic.
13. palliate- to relieve or lessen without curing.
14. protocol- the customs and regulations dealing with diplomatic formality.
15. resplendent- shining brilliantly; gleaming.
16. stigmatize- to mark with a stigma or brand.
17. sub rosa- confidentially; secretly; privately.
18. vainglory- empty pomp or show.
19. vestige- a mark, trace or visible evidence of something that is no longer present or in existence.
20. volition- the power of willing; will.
